Our Preschool Program (Pre-K) is the last stop before the children move on to kindergarten. Ages in this room start at about 2-1/2 years old up to age 5 or 6. The goal in this program is to provide learning opportunities that are developmentally appropriate for each individual child while preparing them for kindergarten. This program is structured to provide activities that promote social/emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. Furthermore, we use Creative Curriculum assessments to identify strengths and next steps for each child.
daily activities
Children in this room continue to develop their skills in making art, using different mediums such as clay, finger paint, crayons, markers, glue and paste, and more. They are avid music makers and love to sing and dance. They continue to learn songs, rhymes, and games. We teach concepts, such as over/under, near/far and more/less. We help chlldren with phonics so that they will have a jump start on learning to read in kindergarten. Children learn about currency, as well as advanced shape recognition. Daily circle time encourages the exchange of thoughts and ideas and also helps to continue developing listening skills, cooperation skills and sharing. We believe that reading is a fundamental necessity to learning and life, and we encourange Pre-K children to read daily. We have a wide variety of books from which they may choose. Each morning, children recite “The Pledge of Allegiance.” We provide a dramatic play area to encourage role-playing and social interaction. This area includes a selection of dress up clothes for the children to choose from. Other unique learning areas include a science station and a computer station. Children also spend time outside on a regular basis where they utilize a variety of equipment to improve their motor skills. Pre-K children have a separate playground.
